After growing up in Boonah QLD, Tim completed medical school at UNSW where he graduated with the Ian Webster Medal and first-class honours.

Tim is a General Surgeon with many years of advanced cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction experience. He was trained by world leaders in Surgical Oncology, Endocrine Surgery, Head and Neck Cancer Surgery and Reconstruction in Sydney and in Toronto, Canada.

His training included a PhD in nerve injury. This body of research has resulted in 4 patents and multiple high impact scientific publications. Tim has authored 33 scientific publications, 2 book chapters and presented at many conferences nationally and internationally.

Tim has performed over 250 major head and neck microvascular reconstructive (free flap) cases and thousands of other surgical procedures across a broad range of conditions.

Along with the cancer and reconstructive experience, Tim has also trained in advanced ultrasound and Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) to offer minimally invasive options and avoid surgery in patients with symptomatic thyroid nodules.

He founded Thyroid Nodule Ablation Queensland (TNAQ) which is now offering advanced ultrasound options in the outpatient setting.

Tim values maintaining his General Surgery skillset and still participates in on-call roster at Mater Private for emergency surgery (including gallbladder and abdominal procedures).

Tim trained with world experts during his fellowships at:

  • Chris O'Brien Lifehouse (Sydney) - Royal Prince Alfred Cancer hospital specialising in Head & Neck Cancer and Reconstruction.

  • Toronto General Hospital/Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Toronto, Canada) - Ranked in the top 4 cancer hospitals in the world.

  • Sunnybrook Hospital (Toronto, Canada) - The largest hospital in Canada with expertise in advanced head and neck surgery and reconstruction.

  • Liverpool Hospital (Sydney) - one of Australia’s busiest hospitals with a high volume of endocrine, head and neck, and emergency general surgery.

After completing his training Dr Eviston worked as a consultant surgeon in New South Wales performing advanced reconstruction for major Head and Neck cancer surgery in the public hospital system. Tim moved his practice to Queensland in 2022 for family reasons with his wife working as a sub-specialist at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Dr Eviston is passionate about optimising functional outcomes after surgery and enjoys sharing his knowledge with the next generation of surgeons and medical professionals.

In 2025 Tim has been collaborating with Dr David Wilkinson to expand treatment options for patients looking for alternatives to surgery and establish a novel, point-of-care interventional ultrasound suite at Mater Private Clinic, South Brisbane. This was built with a view to provide advanced thyroid ultrasound procedures including radiofrequency ablation and ethanol ablation as a day procedure.
